About the Chateau
GENSAC Armagnac - Tradition and Modernity
- As an original 13th century AOC (Applation d’Origine Contrôlée) Château we are committed to traditional values and especially to the century old handcrafted procedures needed to produce outstanding Armagnac.
- We combine tradition of handcrafted highest quality Armagnacs with a modern product appearance and way to market.
- Bringing Armagnac to an international cosmopolitan market.
How the Great GENSAC Armagnac is Produced
- Only a product that is produced in the Armagnac region is allowed to be called Armagnac.
- Armagnac must be made of one of the four main grape varieties: Ugni Blanc, Colombard, Bacco und Folle Blanche.
- First, we produce a high-quality white wine with high acid and no sulfites – alcohol level of approx. 10°.
- Only if you start with a high-quality white wine will you be able to produce a great Armagnac.
- Thanks to the «single distillation» we achieve a very characterful and unique product (alcohol after distillation at about 58-60°).
- Armagnacs are aged in highest quality new French oak barrels.
- Over the years the Armagnac gets its profoundly special character – main driving factors are the quality of the oak barrels, the correct storage conditions and regular work on the product (especially “airing”).
Our Grape Varieties
- All of our wines are based on very typical varieties:
- Red wines: Tannat, Malbec, Merlot, Fer Servadou, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah
- White wines: Sauvignon Gris, Semillon, Petit Corbou and Petit Mansegn
- Armagnac: Ugni Blanc, Colombard
Typical GENSAC
- Meter thick limestone plateaus characterize the GENSAC terroir – this is key to our great products!
- The grapes for our top wines are handpicked which ensures we only add the best grapes into our wines.
- Low yield per hectare – we want to ensure best quality and not quantity.
- Intense full-bodied character wines which reflect our terroir and region.
- New French Oak Barrels for our best wines and also for Armagnacs - something that really makes us stand out.
Organic Production
- Sustainable agriculture and highest care for our soil as well as the biodiversity on the entire estate is deeply rooted in our DNA.
- We are a fully certified organic wine and Armagnac producer.
